Subject: Glastonbury Abbey 2009 Photographic Competition.

Glastonbury Abbey is hosting its second Photographic Competition during 2009. Entitled 'The Spirit of Glastonbury Abbey' and with a closing date of noon on 9th September 2009. The competition is open to amatuer and professional alike and  will be judged by a professional qualified judge.

Entry forms can either be picked up from  Glastonbury Abbeys ticket office or can be downloaded from the website at www.glastonburyabbey.com  ( towards the bottom of the Home page).

We do hope that you will make your members aware of our competition, please,  and hopefully enter too - there are so many exciting things happening here at the Abbey this year to give wonderful opportunies for some glorious photographs.

Fundraising for Childrens Hospice South West. Over 75 vintage and classic cars from the dawn of motoring will start a local scenic tour from Wookey Hole and arrive at Clarks Village in Street. Come and see these stunning vintage and classic cars on

Bristol Floating Harbour 200 Event

 

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completon of the Avon New Cut and Feeder Canal and the opening of Bristol’s Floating Harbour there will be a Fun Day on 4th May by Brunel’s ss Great Britain.

The original celebration in May 1809 featured a party where a hog roast and a specially brewed beer was enjoyed by the Irish builders and Bristol townsfolk alike. Brunel’s ss Great Britain is running a hog roast, and the Bristol Beer Factory has produced a special "Cut Blaster" beer.

There will also be entertainment for the whole family including:

Tales of the Cut with an Irish actor and "Show of Strength".

Irish dancers and Morris dancers.

A jazz band (also performing on the Harbourside train).

Sea shanty singers

A treasure hunt plus other fun and games for children.

Fascinating facts and images of the New Cut and Floating Harbour.
